Light propagation in atomic Mott Insulators
We study radiation-matter interaction in a system of ultracold atoms trapped in an optical lattice in a Mott insulator phase. We develop a fully general quantum model, and we perform calculations for a one-dimensional geometry at normal incidence. Both twoand three-level Λ atomic configurations are studied. The polariton dispersion and the reflectivity spectra are characterized in the different...
متن کاملAnomalous photon diffusion in atomic vapors
The multiple scattering of photons in a hot, resonant, atomic vapor is investigated and shown to exhibit a Lévy flight-like behavior. Monte Carlo simulations give insights into the frequency redistribution process that originates the long steps characteristic of this class of random walk phenomena.
متن کاملSuperluminal propagation of pulsed pseudo-thermal light in atomic vapor.
We report an experimental demonstration of slow and superluminal propagation of pseudo-thermal (chaotic) light in the Λ-type system of the 5S(1/2)-5P(1/2) transition of (87)Rb atom. The slowed propagation of pulsed pseudo-thermal light was demonstrated in an electromagnetically-induced transparency medium while the superluminal propagation was demonstrated with the enhanced absorption scheme wh...
متن کاملPropagation of Coherent Light Pulses with PHASE
The current status of the software package PHASE for the propagation of coherent light pulses along a synchrotron radiation beamline is presented. PHASE is based on an asymptotic expansion of the Fresnel-Kirchhoff integral (stationary phase approximation) which is usually truncated at the 2 order. The limits of this approximation as well as possible extensions to higher orders are discussed. Th...
